We held a ceremony to honor the Spring Equinox here at The Sanctuary at Mt. Shasta on Sunday, March 19th. We marked this time of cosmic harmony with an Andean Despacho ceremony followed by a sacred fire. The community created a beautiful despacho that was completed with a number of diverse, prayer-infused ingredients.
Across time and culture, the spring equinox, the balance of light and dark, of day and night, has been an occasion for ceremony and celebration. This is the time of the emergence of the Sun, the supreme symbol for spiritual growth and maturity, as it awakens us from the darkness of Winter.
The Sun establishes the overall pattern of the year: the measure of time within which the lunar and agricultural cycles take place, as it heralds the end of a period of incubation and the time for sprouting new seeds. As such, the Sun offers a great awakening power and indicates both the physical and spiritual rising of life.
The great festivals celebrated throughout the World remind us of our relationship to the great orders of the cosmic harmony that reflect the order and measurement of the Universe.
Our next community ceremony will be on June 18, 2017 as we celebrate Father’s Day and the Summer Solstice. More information to be provided on this site in early June.
